" It's a nice reel, in the Beachmaster series. I consider it a "light duty" model, a smaller version of the 155. Not very forgiving in the backlash department so your thumb better be paying attention. I sometimes use mine for fluke fishing from the beach. In this day and age, this reel has been pretty much replaced by spinning gear but I enjoy using it anyway. " -"Gadabout"Noreast.com forum

This type of mechanism has mainly been phased out in modern reels, as there is a certain technique required to prevent this from spinning out of control after casting (a problem that has been resolved with the newer gear orientation). Maintenance and lubrication of the reel, and somewhat weighted fishing line are required to get the best function out of this reel - but being a more simple to repair, user-controlled performance (almost like how many prefer a manual transmission as opposed to automatic) means you can really get the most out of this reel by mastering how and why it works - which is a task and skill that modern reels try to handle for you, good or bad." -MadeInUSAReview
