I happened upon this retro Sears model on EBay, I got 4 paddles in total for like $20, combined them with some US-made ping pong balls and a nice US-made folding table from Correll. Everyone knows ping pong, it's a ton of fun for children and adults and especially drunk adults - we've been having a blast with friends and family for months now. The grippy rubber "pipps" make it easier to apply spin and curve to shots, though it's always going to be a tricky technique to learn. We are obvioiusly just casual players, but I've heard of modern professional Table Tennis players choosing to use vintage paddles like this (I suppose it's more important to be comfortable and familiar with the paddle you're using, rather than using one with the most cutting-edge aerodynamic technology). At either skill level, picking a cheap set of Paddles is something every house should do - it's given us something to bond in person with (which is great is the modern era of screens and phones), and even though I'm not the reigning house champion, at least I'm slowly getting better at my backhand.
