They are well-known for durability - the quality of the welds , and the top-of-the-line stainless steel - even though it usually came with a high price, it has a premium reputation and professional chefs, as well as those who seek to support the US economy will happily pay the price to have their kitchen stocked with the best tools - though some of their product line is imported (including the nonstick and other accesories), their full-bonded pots and pans are still made here, and at least all their product's country-of-origin are clearly denoted on All-Clad's website. I managed to find a great D5 pan with lid in like-new quality on EBay for a fraction of it's MSRP - and I've been really enjoying cooking with it for a few years now, it's holds an evenly distributed heat well over my gas stovetop, and it's even safe to be put entirely in the oven for baking and broiling. I must also mention the smaller handle on the opposite side from the main pan-handle is much appreciated, as this large size capacity can be pretty heavy when full. If the D5 isn't exactly what you require, All-Clad offers a wide variety of sizes and shapes, and look out for holiday sales or secondhand resellers like I did - they make great gifts for a birthday or wedding, or just something to class up your current kitchen situation. With Pots and Pans one can easily go years using the same old / dirty / rusty cookware, and treating yourself to some new US-made kitchen gear can improve your quality of life (and most night's dinner) a surprising amount !
